China and Taiwan Hold Historic Talks

China and Taiwan have held their first high-level talks, marking the first government-to-government contact since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949. Delegations led top cross-strait officials from each side, attended the four-day talks in Nanjing which began February 11. Wang Yu-chi of Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), which oversees the island's China policy, met with his mainland Chinese counterpart Zhang Zhijun, of China's Taiwan Affairs Office.
