ADJ: When you first stepped into the post, you emphasised the need for Singapore to have a sharper, smarter and stronger navy. Has the RSN reached the mark that you have expected? CoN: On our Golden Jubilee, the RSN punches above its weight in its capabilities, reach and influence. Abroad, our ships and personnel have made valued contributions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Acheh, and in multinational counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden. In addition, the RSN has developed strong relationships with navies in and beyond the region through exercises and professional interactions. We have also helped advance regional and international collaboration in areas of shared interest, such as in maritime security, information sharing and submarine operational safety.
