Call for Peaceful Resolution of Disputes, Strengthening ASEAN Resolve

The 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met this time in Manila for the 30th ASEAN Summit. With the Philippines as ASEAN chair for this year, this is the first summit hosted by president Rodrigo Roa Duterte. This is amidst the ongoing unsettled overlapping claims on the South China Sea disputes, and tensions in the Korean peninsula. The Summit was held on Apr 29, and attended by all ASEAN heads of state, except for Myanmar who sent state councillor, Aung San Suu Kyi. This is the first of two meetings that the Philippines will host in this 50th year of ASEAN establishment.
