At the beginning of the new millennium, Vietnam's telecoms sector looks towards a brighter future. Its performance in the past decade has been impressive. Penetration rates have been reached or are being reached, according to projections by the Directorate General of Posts and Telecommunications (DGPT) and the national operator Vietnam National Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), working in concert with the postal and telecommunications authorities in the 61 provinces of Vietnam. In addition, the fixed-line network has been digitised.
