180 Mil. Digital-tv Homes Expected By 2012

Asia pacific will have 180 million digital-TV homes by 2012, up from just 36.4 million at end-2006 (see fig.), according to the recently released 11 th edition of Asia Pacific TV from Asiacom publisher Informa Telecoms & Media. The increase will mean that 28.9% of the 624.9 million TV homes in the region will be digital, the report states. Not surprisingly, the report predicts that China will dominate the digital-TV landscape by 2012 with 78.3 million households, or 43.3% of total digital-TV homes in the region. The country had just 10.1 million at end-2006, following its painfully slow migration from analog to digital cable services.
