KPPU playing a dangerous game with mobile ops

It was probably not long ago that Indonesian mobile operators had scarcely heard of local competition regulator the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU). Now, they probably shudder each time they hear it mentioned. Hot on the heels of its ruling that Singaporean government investment firm Temasek Holdings had used its stakes in market leader Telkomsel and second -ranked operator Indosat to engage in price fixing, the KPPU says it has "significant evidence" that operators have been colluding on SMS pricing. The regulator says it will issue a ruling on the matter in early March, in which it might impose heavy fines on all operators involved and order them to reduce their SMS prices.
