Optus announces completion of voice call over a standalone 5G network

Australian mobile network operator (MNO) Optus has announced that, in collaboration with Swedish vendor Ericsson and China's OPPO, it has successfully carried out a voice call over a commercial 5G standalone (SA) network. In a press release regarding the matter, the MNO said the call had been conducted on its network using Evolved Packet System Fallback (EPS-FB), which utilized Ericsson Radio Access Network (RAN) technology, Ericsson cloud native dual-mode 5G Core for standalone networks, Ericsson Cloud IMS and Oppo's Find X3 Pro 5G handset.
