South Korea's SK Telecom (SKT) and vendor partner Ericsson have successfully tested the country's first end-to-end 5G standalone data communications connection, ZDnet reported. The test used purely 5G systems including handsets, radio stations and core equipment. Connection speeds doubled and data processing speeds tripled compared to the current commercial 5G non-standalone networks which use both LTE and 5G networks, SKT said. SKT expects to commercialize standalone 5G in the first half of next year.
