Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has won a contract from Singaporean fixed and mobile operator StarHub to upgrade its mobile networks with Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadband infrastructure, re-farming its 1800MHz GSM band to carry the new 4G services. In the initial launch phase StarHub says it is looking to cover a number of key business areas - the Singapore Changi Airport, Marina Bay, Suntec, and Shenton Way - by the end of this year. As part of the modernization plan, NSN is installing equipment that will help StarHub to reduce power consumption on its GSM network by up to half, it said.
