China Telecom, the smallest of China's three wireless operators by subscribers, has completed a deal with Swedish vendor Ericsson to expand and upgrade the company's CDMA network. Ericsson will upgrade Telecom's packet data serving node (PDSN), expand its CDMA core network and provide related services for two years. Ericsson will also deploy a smart pipe solution customized for CDMA networks in the Zhejiang and Anhui provinces. The network development is expected to lay the foundations for a smooth transition to Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the future.
