Chip Monolithic Ceramic Capacitors Drive Automotive Applications

Amidst an economic downturn, the automotive market is growing steadily. Particularly, the application of electronic systems and devices to cars is proceeding at a fast pace. These systems and devices include not only car driving and control systems but also safety equipment such as smart air-bags and tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMSs), whose adoption is legally obligated due to a traffic law revision in the United States; emergency information systems and communication equipment, demand for which is growing due to the introduction of electronic toll collection (ETC); entertainment equipment and security systems such as the immobilizers whose use is beginning to spread as a car burglary prevention measure; and carmounted PCs and LANs, which control these systems and equipment in ah integrated way. Thus, the growth of car-mountable electronics is notable (Fig. 1).
