Fingerprint Sensor Devices Offer Reliable Security in Networks

At a time when network-related and so-called cyber crimes are increasing, there is a need for a high-level security system. Passwords are common security measures, but there have been cases when passwords are broken. In this situation, attention is focused on biometrics where individual identification is made on the basis of people's characteristics. There are various identification methods adopted in biometrics, including those based on a person's fingerprint, iris, retina, palmprint, facial feature, signature, voiceprint, among others. Of these methods, the fingerprint method is excellent in cost-performance (Fig. 1). This is the leading identification method at present, and is expected to remain as the most important one in the future. Fingerprint identification will be a key technology for networked society when it enters the ubiquitous network era.
