Chartered, IBM Announce Deliverables at 65nm Node

Emphasizing the open and collaborative nature of their project, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing and IBM Corp. say they are ready to provide usable products (the so-called deliverables) resulting from 65nm processes. The two companies have been working with each other and with Infineon AG and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. at IBM's East Fishkill facility in New York to develop the platform for the 65nm process. In keeping with a late January announcement, the two companies will continue working together there to develop a 45nm process platform as well (Fig. 1). Kevin Meyer, Vice President of Char-tered's Worldwide Marketing and Dr. John Martin, Vice President of Chartered's Strategic Alliances and Partnerships teamed with Dr. Walter Lange, IBM's OEM Solutions Field Executive to announce the deliverables at an April 15 press conference in Tokyo. This event followed a late January announcement by Chartered that it had begun work on 65nm prototypes at its 300mmO wafer fab. The purpose of the April 15 event was to notify Chartered's Japanese customers that the new technology node is available to them now.
