Tektronix Addresses Challenges of Testing Digital RF Technologies

Modern digital RF devices generate signals that are present one moment, absent the next, and variable over time. Digital RF creates the need for test tools whose capabilities mirror the time-varying nature of signals. The full power of digital computing technologies exerts a great impact on the radio frequency (RF) field these days. The availability of advanced digital RF technologies in turn suggests even more ways to expand wireless communications. Several key technical elements drive the "wireless everywhere" trend. Digital signal processors (DSPs), FPGAs and other chips now replace many traditional analog radio parts. Digital technology brings benefits in rate of performance and economy of scale. Meanwhile, new technologies often are deployed in advance of codified standards. Digital RF chips also feature basic cost benefits and digital intelligence, simultaneously making radios cheaper and smarter. Consumers also drive technology through their demands for ubiquitous applications and services, wireless anytime, anywhere, on any global network availability, and enhanced convenience. These include concepts like device-to-device connectivity and communication, and Internet everywhere.
