Sharp's 3D Motion Sensor Lets Complex Operations in Contactless Manner

Sharp Corporation has developed a 3D motion sensor, allowing users to operate a device equipped with the sensor in a contactless manner. The new sensor has integrated two chips, an infrared emission light-emitting diode (LED) and a 900 (30 × 30) pixel CMOS image sensor with built-in DSP capable of performing arithmetic processing at up to 120fps, into one compact package (external dimensions: 7.9 × 3.9 × 3.4mm). It uses the infrared LED to detect the movement of objects, such as hands and fingers.
