Mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets equipped with a projected capacitive touch panel, have been increasing rapidly due to their light touch feeling and intuitive and user-friendly human interface based on true multi-touch capability. The conventional projected capacitive touch panel technology using a discrete glass touch panel on the display has challenges relating to thickness, weight, and reduced productivity due to the many manufacturing processes involved. Integrated touch solutions are effective to overcome these challenges. We have summarized the methods and advantages/challenges of typical integrated touch panel solutions in Table 1. "Pixel Eyes" is an LCD module with JDI's inte- grated touch sensor solution. JDI chose to integrate touch sensors onto the CF (color filter) glass and the TFT (thin film transistor) glass. Compared with other solutions, such as cover glass integration solution, CF glass integration solution and TFT glass integration solution, JDI's integrated solution has the best balance of both performance and productivity. In terms of adaptability, JDI's solution shows the best capability, whereas the cover glass integration solution has a limitation in cover glass design and the CF glass & TFT glass integration solutions have display size and resolution limitations.
