ST's Microcontroller, Sensors Power Groundbreaking Robots

At Embedded Technology 2014 (ET 2014) held in Yokohama, Japan in November, STMi-croelectronics N.V. introduced robots that incorporate the company's microcontroller, motion sensor, and motor control technologies. The robots on show were the iCub high-performance humanoid robot and the ACM-R5H snake-shaped amphibian robot. iCub has been developed at Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), a scientific and research development foundation in Italy. It is a humanoid robot of the size of a four-year-old child that is 104cm tall and weighs 25kg. IIT researched human intelligence and reproduced its characteristics in a robot. It can learn as it repeats mistakes using visual, tactile and auditory senses. Furthermore, it can also hold a ball or other object and handle it gently.
