I ndon’t normally write to reviews editors following the publication of a review of one of nmy books, but I feel that I ought to respond to a couple of issues in Daniel Langan’s nreview of I Feel A Song Coming On: The Life of Jimmy McHugh (ARSC Journal, n2010;41(2):285-286). I’m grateful to him for pointing out a number of small errors, and nI shall make efforts to have these corrected in subsequent printings. However, he says nthat McHugh’s nickname “The Bishop of Beverly Hills” is a “sobriquet [that] does not ap-npear in this biography.” Strictly speaking Langan is correct, because, on page 178, I refer nto McHugh as “The Bishop of Beverly.” This is as he described the nickname himself. nAdding “Hills” to it rather destroys the ecclesiastical pun that McHugh intended regard-ning the cathedral church of Beverley in Yorkshire, England. But then given Langan’s nsurprisingly Anglophobe comments elsewhere regarding the occasional use of “British nEnglish” in the book, I am not really surprised that he should miss the point of this play non words.
