This collection is the second, and fnal, installment devoted to the complete recordings of nthe Italian heroic tenor Francesco Tamagno, produced by the British frm Historic Masters, nspecialists in the production of vinyl 78-rpm records from original metal parts. I reviewed ntheir frst Tamagno collection (ARSC Journal, 2008;39[1]:169-172), a set of seven double-nfaced 78-rpm vinyl pressings comprising all of the tenor’s surviving 12-inch records, includ-ning six items never before issued in any form. In that review I discussed the unique quali-nties of Tamagno’s singing, and gave an overview of the reissues of his recordings on LP and nCD; that material need not be repeated here. My reviews of Historic Masters’ collections ndevoted to Adelina Patti (which includes an explanation of why their pressings are closer to nthe original wax masters than any previous releases; ARSC Journal, 2007;38[2]:281-283), nand Nellie Melba (ARSC Journal, 2009;40[2]:296-298), may also be of interest.
