Since the first flight of Army Aviation very early in the 20th century, the United States has led the world in the evolution of combat aviation tactical systems to support maneuver commanders of all Services. And since the beginning of the Vietnam War, the U.S. military has experienced an unprecedented explosion and accelerated change in advancing rotary wing platforms and capabilities. The U.S. military and its allies have fielded the most sophisticated and capable aircraft in the world to fulfill their respective needs. However, these tactical aircraft advancements and capabilities - primarily rotary wing - are rapidly reaching the zenith of traditional design technology to survive and maneuver in increasingly complex batdespace.
