摘要

The paper presents the concept of weighted mean friction angle for calculation of the bearing capacity of shallow foundations on sands. Assuming that iterative method proposed by Perkins and Madson is correct, it is shown that for surface strip foundations the weighted mean friction angle is function of critical friction angle, density index of sands and width of foundation. The bearing capacity of embaded foundations of various shape and various geometry of loading can be calculated by Eurocorle 7 formula using appropriate shape, depth of embadment and geometry of loading coefficients. Results of experiments and numerical calculations described in literature confirm correctness of the presented concept and it may be widely applied in engineering practice.
