Generically directed algebras

We prove that a tame algebra A admits a sincere directing generic module if and only if A is either tame concealed or tubular. This implies that all generically directed algebras are of linear growth. The main results solve two problems, raised by W. Crawley-Boevey [5] and the author [15].
