Electrochromic (EC) glass, sometimes known as smart glass or dynamic glass, is an electronically tintable glass used for windows, skylights, facades, and curtain walls. It is automatically controlled by light sensors and can also be directly controlled by building occupants. It is popular for its ability to maximize access to daylight and outdoor views, reduce energy costs, and improve occupant comfort. Electrochromic glass can also be referred to as "dynamic glazing" or "smart glass." Dynamic glazing is defined as '"any fenestration product that has the fully reversible ability to change its performance properties, including U-factor, solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), or visible transmittance (VT).'" The category not only includes electrochromic glass, but also photochromic (PC), thermochromic (TC), suspended particle device (SPD), and polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC).
