Oase contemplation space in Maennedorf, Switzerland

Boldern evangelical conference and study centre near Mannedorf lies on a sunny natural terrace high above Upper, Lake Zurich. The complex is a conglomerate of individual buildings on a green meadow, among which the pavilion by Vehovar & Jauslin Architektur now places a fresh accent. The pavilion offers those taking part in seminars a space they can withdraw to from the everyday seminar world and where they can reflect or meditate. It is non-denominational and is intended to be open to everybody. What looks at first glance like a snail's shell turns out on closer examination to consist of two curved walls lying opposite each other. The two identical exposed concrete walls form an oval interior space with two entrances. The space seems to flow: visitors are drawn inwards from outside and led into the contemplative space where they are handed over, as it were, to the second wall with the bench and are then led outside again along the continuous bench.
