"The construction industry uses around 40% of all material and water resources and produces around 30% of greenhouse gas emissions", says Francoise Helene Jourda, head of the Department for Spatial and Sustainable Design at Vienna University of Technology. "Sustainable architecture is not a question of style or technical solutions. We want to give our students tools that enable them to act differently". Consequently Jourda established the "Blue Award". This international architecture prize for students promotes and spreads the idea of sustainability. The "Blue Award 2012" was endowed with prize money amounting to 20,000 euros. The jury, chaired by Sir Michael Hopkins, looked at 232 projects from 38 countries. The winner in the category "Urban Development and Transformation, Landscape Development" was the project "Reverse Thrust" by Nikhil Chaudhary from the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT University) in Ahmedabad (India).
