摘要

We live in a permanent paradox: on the one hand industrialisation, mobility and digitalisation have fed our illusion of great individual freedom for everyone - we can, it is alleged, go anywhere we want, either in reality or virtually, at any time. But the new technology has other, less positive aspects. As it is also used for criminal purposes, surveillance and access restrictions are playing an increasingly important role. These, in turn, can be used for other goals less noble than protecting the citizens - namely for comprehensive control combined with a total loss of the private sphere. At the same time the digital industry aims at achieving maximum consumer dependence on data services - in this way the freedom of the individual is yet further reduced. Has progress really taken place? A supposed freedom may possibly have yielded to even greater dependence on individual interests. For, control over efficient technologies creates the kind of power which cannot be controlled and which, above all, lacks legitimacy.
