Permanent Collection Asia

The Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna (MAK) commissioned Tadashi Kawamata, who has placed his structures built of wood in both museum and public spaces, with the redesign of the Permanent Collection Asia. Kawamata's design places the exhibits from China, Japan and Korea in a context of permanent change through the play of light and shadow. They are presented in large, scaffoldlike display cases (photo: Georg Mayer), an installation that is intended to "envelop and embrace" the collection.
