Compact geometry: 'Rifugio Mollino' in the Aosta Valley, Italy

With the "Rifugio Mollino"Turin Polytechnic created a contemporary, thchnically sophisticated realisation of CarloMollino's "Casa Capriata" dating from 1954. In the work of Carlo Mollino (1905-1973), his mountain houses represent a separate chapter, in which the Turin architect developed a formal idiom entirely different to the rest of his oeuvre. The timber building methods used in the Walser villages, which he studied for a considerable period, represent the explicit point of reference of his engineering projects in which the implementation of the structural concept goes coherently hand in hand with the design of the architectural form.
