摘要

The city of the 20th century was shaped by the motor car. Could the cities of the 21st century, where in decades to come 70% of the world population will live, be lastingly influenced by cycling? This question is the leitmotif of the initiators of "BYCS" at the Bicycle Architecture Biennale (BAB): alongside numerous other programs such as "Bicycle Mayors" and the "BYCS Lab" BAB calls for a public discourse on the theme of mobility and asks "Where might the bike bring us?" The members of BYCS are all in agreement that the bicycle is far more than an individual mode of transport. As well as offering clean and publicly accessible alternative mobility it strength-ens the sense of community and contributes to mental and physical health. NEXT architects curated 15 contributions on this theme that offer a variety of worldwide infrastructure projects for bicycles. Selected from projects that were submitted in response to an open call, the contributions are made up of eleven completed buildings and four conceptual designs.
