For Grzegorz Ziebik good architecture is a source of happiness. With his wife he runs the office projekt_DwA pracownia architekton-iczna.The first project that they built was their own family house. "I regard a building as a 'little black dress' that is tailor-made. It must be an artwork", says Polish architect, Grzegorz Ziebik. "The best thing about my job is that architecture can make people happy." In Ziebik's childhood Poland was a Communist country. "Back then architecture did not help to make people happy. Most people lived in badly built housing made from poorly insulated prefabricated elements." Ziebik's visit to the Rolex Learning Center in Lausanne designed by SANAA was like a revelation for him. "That was my most important architectural experience. In the Rolex Center I felt peaceful and happy." His role models include a number of Japanese architects as well as Bjarke Ingels, the charismatic founder of BIG. Ziebik worked for many years in the Zalewski Architecture Group with which he built an elegant office building for the small firm FIS-SST in Gliwice. As the client could not afford a sun protection system the facade was made of horizontal timber louvers that give the building its specific character. The architects also found a most convincing form for technical buildings with which water is pumped from a depth of 200 metres. With their grey metal facades they look like impressive blocks of stone in the landscape.
