'Engineering the World: Ove Arup and the Philosophy of Total Design', Victoria & Albert Museum, London

The exhibition "Engineering the World: Ove Arup and the Philosophy of Total Design" at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London showcases, in addition to current prototypes and digital animations of the internationally active Ove Arup office, as yet unknown archive material. Passing a glass wall of algae-green water you ascend a red metal structure to enter the world of Ove Arup. Arup's voice rings out over speakers talking about his beginnings as a philosopher and mathematician before he became an engineer. This sets the scene for how he revolutionised the way in which engineers and architects collaborated and how that stemmed from his philosophical outlook, mathematical thinking, creativity and wit. These traits are all apparent on a gleeful wall of Arup's colourful doodles - across an envelope addressed to his company, on the engineer's notepaper and other pieces of paper.
