摘要

Continuing building In the hilly landscape of central Bur-genland stands a small village that has developed organically over the years and that could not be more typical of this region: along the classic main street one house follows the next, or, to be more precise, one Streckhof (an elongated farmhouse type) follows the other. In some places one is missing. Forgotten, decayed, lost. As a result, the former outhouses, sheds and stables which stand in the second row and extend back towards the open orchards and lush fields behind, have begun to attract interest. This was the case with a young Viennese couple with a child, which appreciated the existing buildings and therefore decided on an unusual building project. Architect Juri Troy recognised the quality of the second and third row of buildings behind the main houses along the street. Here, thanks to the original, traditional buildings, one can still sense the flair of the past 100 years. This is also true of the Streckhof that this family inherited from the grandmother and in which they have made a home. For a number of years the client has been distilling his own schnapps here from fruit grown in his own garden. The existing complex had two yards, a third one was to be made by erecting a new building. The first plan to integrate this new element in the yard of the main house was rejected, so as not to impair the special quality of the existing building. The second idea, converting the existing barn, was also abandoned because the building's simple construction was not really suitable for a conversion, and yet it was to be preserved at all costs. Therefore, the clients decided to erect a further building that would take up the existing yard system and would therefore fit perfectly into the setting. This decision offered the opportunity to set up a schnapps distillery in the old barn.
