ル・アーヴルの水泳複合施設『レ・バン・デ・ドック』/ジャン・ヌーヴェル

This 5,000 m~2 bathing complex stands on the waterfront at Le Havre, under the soft lights of the Atlantic coast. From the dockside it appears as a dark grey shoe-box with signage and cut-outs marked on its facade skin. The entrance, under a flat marquee, opens a sequence of filter spaces: main hall, screening areas and passageways penetrating weightless white blocks. Bathers cross a footwear-removal zone leading to the lockers before accessing the 'wet feet' spaces. The locker area comprises four locker/booth blocs and two shower/toilet blocs, separated by passages. Each locker bloc is opened up on two levels by hoppers that bring in daylight.
