The narrow site is located along the coastline in Northern Zealand, and is characterized by a rare spatial exchange between the forest hill towards the west and the sea view to the east. The client brief was to create the ultimate sustainable home for a young family of four. Consistent with the way we work, this simultaneous and unique presence of sea and forest became a focal point for developing the spatial sequences in the house. Another idea was to avoid the house typology and reduce the form to a more archaic structure that defines the inner and outer spaces and distributes light and view. In order to create this structure we challenged the strict height limitations of a 1.5 story house in the building regulations, by rotating the traditional saddle roof 90 degrees and cutting it up with the allowed plan and maximum height offset of the site's outline.
