Si. Brigitta Chapel and Waiting Room (1920-1924)

These first buildings were sited in the berm that has existed on the site since prehistoric times. Closer to the center a prehistoric burial mound had also survived over the centuries; now it was to be integrated into the new cemetery. In siting half of the volumes of St. Birgitta Chapel and the Waiting Room into the berm. the two buildings take on the appearance of buried objects themselves, in part anticipating the act of burial and in part paying homage to the ash-covered remnants of Pompeii.
