Textile Architecture

Developed and designed in another partnership with designer Stefana Simic, this is a reinterpretation of the most ancient architecture, a nomadic architecture with basically two modules: textile architecture in tension using ropes anchored into the earth, and textile architecture by strapping textiles on top of a basket-like structure. We were mostly inspired by the basketlike structures, which you can still see used by some people in northern Africa. The project, Caravane, proposes a nomadic popup village of artisans that would continuously travel the globe. We designed the main pavilions and dormitories of this village. In this project, we explored one of the most extraordinary bamboo capabilities, which is flexibility. When you split the round bamboo into strips and sand them down, you make a perfect material that can be used for baskets, and in this case, we were designing giant baskets for a living.
