The washi was designed with intertwining lines appearing as if drawn with a long continuous stroke; one large washi sheet was cut into four, and fitted to each sliding door. The design expresses the interchange between people and the intersection of things and events, leading to cooperation and expansion. The embedded medley of thin colored threads flowing in gentle straight lines and the thicker cords of curving lines symbolize a harmonious fusion of Japanese and Western culture. The thicker cords and thin colored threads create strong contrast, and the mica and silver foil emphasize washi's unique texture.
