摘要

Welcome to this edition of Architectural Science Review where we are exploring a number of themes concerned with improving the building typology. The first paper is invited from a group of researchers interested in healthy buildings and who have researched sick building syndrome. This is important topic since occupants are now spending a larger part of their lives in buildings as compared to the outdoors. The paper by Amirho-sein Ghaffarianhoseini, Husam AlWaer, Hossein Omran, Ali Ghaffarianhoseini, Chaham Alalouch, Derek Clements-Croome, John Tookey, is called 'Sick Building Syndrome: Are We Doing Enough?' It examines whether the strategies used in the design of buildings is sufficient to address the environmental conditions creating 'Sick building syndrome.' Essentially The term 'sick building syndrome' (SBS) is used to describe situations in which building occupants experience acute health and comfort effects that appear to be linked to time spent in a building, but no specific illness or cause can be identified. The complaints may be localized in a particular room or zone, or may be widespread throughout the building. (Environmental Protection Agency 1991).
