RENOVATION OF GANJINGZI STADIUM

This is a renovation project for a stadium located in the Ganjingzi District of Dalian, China. The entire existing structure was falling apart and was determined structurally unsafe for use. As its site was surrounded by a railway track and housing district, the only access to the site was from the north gate. Circulation and symbolic spaces of public activity were therefore considered central points to this renovation project. We therefore intend to redesign the stadium ground and spectator stands and build a new gymnasium and dormitory for students of the neighboring physical training school. In terms of smooth circulation, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be clearly separated in the stadium. Finally, the sub-stand to the main stand offers a most spectacular view with a brightly colored wall structure made of reinforced concrete and brick that is adopted in both the main stand and gymnasium to assume a symbolic role in the facility.
