The Advanced Earthquake Engineering Laboratory is a test facility that houses two vibration tables: a large-scale vibration table capable of reproducing earthquakes that have occurred throughout the world, and a large amplitude vibration table capable of reproducing the tremors of long period earthquakes. A rich green biotope is provided in the center of the Shimizu Institute of Technology, which is located in the city center, and the facility was renewed in the center of this site. The building was designed to merge into the greenery, and is the final stage in a series of renovations. Specifically the two vibration tables are arranged facing the biotope and partitioned from it with a glass screen, with the aim of providing a space that integrates the interior research function with the exterior greenery. In order to realize a building that is a vibration test facility while also extensively using glass, all the knowledge of the Institute was mobilized for analysis of the foundations and investigation of the natural frequencies, etc. In order to enhance the feeling of transparency rotational inertial dampers were provided on the second floor long span to control vertical vibrations.%先端地震防災研究棟は,これまで起きた世界中の地震を再現可能な大型振動台と,長周期地震の揺れを再現可能な大振幅振動台の,2つの振動台 を収容する実験施設である。
