What effects will 'theoretical meltdown' have on the future of architectural production? The answer to this question, as highlighted in the contributions to this issue of AD, is not a simple one. What is certain, however, is that in the recent past theoretical meltdown has produced at least four results. The first is an extraordinary perception of freedom. The protagonists of contemporary architecture have demonstrated that when designing buildings it is possible to successfully employ any idea, any form and any technology. The second has to do with an awareness of the relational value of architecture. In fact, we have developed a new sensibility towards context and the natural environment.
