Resonant Bodies in Immersive Space

Sheltering the human body is the architect's most obvious, most primitive and most noble task. For to house the body is, of course, to house the mind. Architecture is our surrogate body without whose support we would immediately perish. Lacking thick fur or sturdy shell, our fragility makes us utterly dependent on our built surroundings in a way that is without parallel in the natural world.This nascent vulnerability - the fact that we cannot exist outside a constructed envelope - is, at the same time, the very reason that we have become human in the first place.To say that we have co-evolved with our buildings is to grossly understate the deeply intertwined, developmental nature of our transactions with our surroundings. We are who we are because of the innumerable ways we have mutually shaped and interacted with our dwellings. And this is not meant in a strictly functional sense - our existence has depended upon extending ourselves not only physiologically, but also psychologically and socially through the medium of our constructed habitat.
