Swinburne University of Technology's Hawthorn campus is about to open a major new frontage to Burwood Road with the completion of the new Advanced Technologies Centre, by H2o Architects. From a distance, the 11-storey building is composed as two monolithic blocks, one tilting away from the other and linked by a glazed cleft with bridges crossing at high levels. The facades consist of white-pigmented precast concrete panels with a raised circular motif in a diamond arrangement wrapping and folding around corners providing a sense of objects in the round. Circular openings replace the raised moments at irregular intervals in a shotgun spray giving the appearance of a minimal number of windows.
