The Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Management Society: Twenty years of sustained ecological science

I extend my sincere congratulations to the Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Management Society (AEHMS) on the completion of twenty years of sustained activity in the understanding and promotion of ecological science. Over those years, the society has worked tirelessly to support sound management practices for the conservation and protection of healthy aquatic ecosystems. A twentieth anniversary is an ideal time to reflect on the fundamental principles underlying our relationships and activities, to challenge our assumptions where appropriate so that we can set our sights on relevant and beneficial objectives for the future. It can also be a time to assess those approaches that proved productive and useful so that we can learn from our past successes and failures as we engage with younger scientists and seek to guide our society towards an equally, if not more successful future.
