A model of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites which supposes availability of the transition zone between their elastic components is proposed. This zone consists of a number of individual simple layers, each of which is isotropic and possesses some mechanical properties and thickness. Analytical correlations for the integral properties of such tranversally isotropic materials and expressions for local stress fields in the components under arbitrary loading have been developed within the framework of the aforementioned model.
