Power switches are widely used and have been the control option of choice for decades but it no longer is the only solution and perhaps no longer the preferred solution. The following article discusses the need for separation of the control features of an appliance from the actual power transmission to the appliance 'engine'-the motor, heater, etc. We'll explore some of the issues related to control logic versus a primary power switch with a look at the ways to overcome some of these issues and take advantage of the power unleashed by the proliferation of logic devices including the next generation of IoT enabled devices.
