Representative heights in the trunk to determine whole-tree values of vessel morphology (radial, tangential and average diameters, and wall thickness), and vessel frequency, were evaluated by examining the within-tree variation in Eucalyptus camaldulensis and E. globulus trees. In both species, vessel morphology value was observed to increase in the outer parts of the trunk, while vessel frequency was higher in the inner parts of the trunk. The representative heights for estimating vessel morphology were 1.8, 2.8 and 3.3 m above ground in E. camaldulensis and 1.3, 1.8 and 2.8 m in E. globulus, regardless of differences in tree height (growth rate). No representative heights were found for vessel frequency.
