Retailers are responding to sweeping changes in consumer expectations by digitally transforming their businesses, racing to replace legacy technologies with new platforms that enable them to respond quickly and nimbly to shifting demands. Those leading that race are gaining clear advantage over those who lag. Retail leaders- those that increased revenue 5% or higher in 2017- are much more likely to be undertaking key digital transformation steps including investing in advanced analytics, optimizing stores and retiring legacy systems, according to the R/S/Gartner "2018 Retail Technology Study." Laggards, meanwhile, have delayed critical technology upgrades and are using out-of-date software, hardware and network systems. Retailers failing to do the disrupting are being disrupted.
