Manufacturing Picks Up in November

The APICS Business Outlook Index improved substantially in November, rising to 52.9 from 49.5. The current component rose to 52.2 from 49.3, while the future component increased to 53.6 from 49.7. Much of the gain was caused by a sharp rebound in the index for new orders, which rose to 61.7 from 45.7. Unfilled orders showed a similar gain, rising to 57.2 from 45.2. Shipments also increased sharply to 60.6, up from 43.9 in October.
