I wasn't always a consultant. I used to do real work. Working in a warehouse was the most physically demanding job I've ever had. I've competed in 10K races and even in a half-marathon, but nothing can compare to an 8-to 10-hour shift stacking freight. That's work with a capital W. We worked excessive overtime because we were always short on manpower. There were always enough suspended employees, sick call-ins, injured employees milking workman's comp, or simple no-shows, to assure the rest of us more overtime than we could stand. It was always the same employees who managed to be absent for one reason or another. Pareto's law absolutely applied here―20 percent of Our employees accounted for 80 percent of the missed time.
